Eating Healthy And A Good Night's Sleep Really Do Help Kids Learn

Kids,

To back what many parents already believe in, a study shows that healthy eating and a good nights sleep habit can help children do good in school. The brain can not work properly if a child is not getting enough calories and most of the time this is not an issue. However, when children go to school without eating any breakfast, their thinking power and learning skills can be affected.

Children should begin the day with fruits, grains and protein. They need to avoid cereals with sugars because they cause a sugar high that will result in a crash. A well balanced breakfast will give kids the energy they need to sustain their attention level through lunch. They will also need to eat well at lunch. This will hold them over until dinner time and they will not have the need to snack on junk food. If kids do need to snack on something before dinner, parents can give a healthy choice such as yogurt, fruits and vegetables. For a beverage, they should drink water instead of soda or juice.

Getting the proper sleep is another important aspect to doing well in school. Children must have a good night's sleep for their school performance to improve. A lack of sleep will lead to difficulties with attention and memory in the classroom. It will also affect impulse control and mood regulation that may lead to anxiety and could even cause depression. Kids ages 6 to 12 should get 9 hours of sleep. This is also a good number for teen. However, on average they are only getting about 7 hours of sleep.

So often parents think one night of less sleep will not matter, but that is all it takes to affect them the next day. If they are continuously deprived, it can have lasting affects and make matters only worse. Trying to play catch up on lost sleep on the weekends can only compound the issue. If kids sleep in on Saturday, they will have a tough time going to bed Saturday night. So now they sleep in on Sunday and have a tough time going to bed Sunday night. Monday mornings they are tired and it is hard to get up for school. They struggle with getting back on a good sleep schedule. Both children and teens need to be on a consistent bedtime schedule 7 days a week. This will keep their body clock set so they can go to bed at a certain time every night and sleep good throughout night to wake up well rested the next morning.

My name is Scott and I am a father of 4 children. I am here to share my knowledge and experiences with you. I hope that what I have to say will benefit you in some small way. Come see what else I have to offer by browsing the sites below. Have a great day!
