You're finishing your third trimester -- and are due any day now! How are you feeling?
"I'm good! I'm definitely juggling it all, what with two kids, which is a lot while being pregnant. But I'm very excited. We're having a boy [her husband is producer Jason Goldberg]. I can't believe it. I confess I'm in total shock."
Will you approach parenthood differently with a son than you do with your daughters, Poet, 8, and Jagger, 5?
"I have no idea. I'm so used to having girls. I'm in disbelief. I'm asking my friends who have boys what to do with all that energy."
With the release of your second book, Let's Get This Party Started, plus all the promotional duties that come with it, how did you take care of yourself while pregnant?
"I've tried to be as healthy as possible. But my cravings were all carbs, donuts, and all that fun stuff. I've been going at an insane pace while on this book tour. I'm traveling all over the place. I was in Minneapolis one week, in New York with the kids the next. I'm running myself ragged. But I figure soon enough I'll be home!"
Tell us how you came up with the idea for the book.
"My girls and I love to do get-togethers and throw parties, and do crafting and adventurous projects. We realized that so often when you get ideas from blogs or magazines, the end result doesn't look anything like the picture. We wanted to create fun crafts at home that are both doable and accessible. The book was a family affair. My brother is the photographer, and my kids are on the pages, as are my friends. It was a labor of love."
So you're saying even the craft-challenged can pull off your ideas?
"Definitely! We do everything from making spyglasses from paper towels to binoculars from toilet paper rolls. The book offers sports party themes, pirate party themes -- many easy party ideas that go together with a specific craft that's good for the whole family."
Did motherhood ignite the 'mom-trepreneur' in you, from your eco-clothing shop in L.A., The Little Seed, to your clothing line and two books?
"My kids are my inspiration every day. I was looking for eco-friendly clothing and toy alternatives that were safe for kids. That's where The Little Seed came from, and it evolved. As a mom I encourage other moms to create and share. There's never been a better time; social media allows us a platform to reach other moms, at our fingertips."
Name your biggest challenge.
"I've had to learn how to be a juggler. My focus is my little ones. I'm so fortunate because I design my projects with them, and we have a blast. But the challenge is to balance it all and take risks at the same time. Sometimes it's scary, but I tell myself to go ahead and go for it, and to follow my dreams."
