Nov. 3, 2014 -- A temporary court order for Maine nurse Kaci Hickox will remain in place until just before midnight on Nov. 10 under an agreement reached between Hickox's lawyers and state officials.
The order issued Friday by the Maine District Court was sought by the state in order to reduce the risk that Hickox -- who cared for Ebola patients in West Africa -- might transmit the disease to others. The court order lasts until the 21-day incubation period for Ebola is over, according to the Bangor Daily News.
Under the court order, Hickox must continue to submit to regular monitoring that includes daily temperature and symptoms checks, along with visits from public health officials. Also, the Fort Kent resident must coordinate any travel with the state and immediately alert health authorities if she develops Ebola symptoms.
Hickox tested negative for Ebola after returning from Sierra Leone two weeks ago and has no symptoms. She fought attempts by Maine officials to impose strict quarantine measures on her.
"We are very pleased with this resolution," Hickox' s attorney Eric Saunders told the Daily News. "It was a negotiated resolution, which are generally the best."
